Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League:
Week Five!
- Submitted by

At the half way point of the two teams have spaced themselves from the rest of the pack. Milestone and Balgonie have had there way with the competition this season. However there is always teams’ lurking in the weeds ready to upset the powers that be and take there place a top the QVHL Standings!!!

One of those teams will have a chance to do so on Friday night as the Rivals of Montmartre travel to Balgonie to face the Bisons. Montmartre is lead by a plethora of talented individuals and now has regained the services of Rob Muntain in net. This makes the Rivals a serious contender. The Bisons are the class of the league right now with three great lines and solid defense. As much as the Rivals want to be the new “king pins” the old saying rings true “If you want to be the Champ you have to beat he Champ!”

Game tow pits the Milestone Flyers visiting the Ogema Colts. The colts will need a total team effort to stave off the potent Flyers attack. Chance Olsen has 11 goals in 8 games for the Flyers. Look for him to add to his total. If the Colts to do shut down that top line then they have to contend with a group of very talented individuals on the second and third line. Could be a long night in the “Stable” for the Colts!

Game three pits a great match up of the Grenfell Spitfires and the Rouleau Ramblers. The Spits are a team just oozing with talent. However the lose of Rob Usher has figured to hang cuff the Spits and left them in disarray. As always the Spits are lead by Scott Binner and his leadership is never in question. Rouleau is once again led by Lonny Forrester, this year the supporting cast is Micheal Berg. Some changes have been made, gone are the Kress brothers and Jordan Clarke however one thing remains the same, it is always tough to win in the Ramblers Barn!!!

The final game Friday night is in Balcarres where the Broncs host the Komets. Kelliher has transitioned well to the QVHL and as many teams are finding out they are not a push over. The Komets are paced by Jaret Ross and his 16 points in 8 games. The Broncs are a hard bird to read. They are lead by Jay Livingston and his 11 points in 6 games. This is the third meeting of the year between these two teams as they have met twice in the exhibition season. Look for a spirited game between these two as the teams have crossed path many times in the past!!!

Saturday has every team in the league playing. Every arena will be hoping.

Milestone will host the Broncs in Milestone. The Broncs look to avenge a savage beating the Flyers laid on them earlier in the year. It will be an up hill battle for the Broncs as the Flyers are virtually unbeatable at home!

In one of the more intriguing match ups on Saturday, Rouleau will play host to the Bisons. Rouleau will have there second home game in as many nights, Balgonie will have to deal with the let down after a big match up vs the Rivals and also the late start from the night before. I can smell an upset!!!

Game three on Saturday has some great story lines. Montmartre playing a home game in December at Odessa??? The return of Jonas Thomson and Rance Thomson! Either way you look at it this game has the making of a thrilling contest. Remember week 2 when the Hawks hammered the Rivals at the Eagledome, if the Hawks make it two for two vs the Rivals, look out “Q” we have a new Big Dog!

The next game on the slate pits the longest road trip in the league 248 KM between Kelliher and Ogema. Kelliher looks to sweep the season series vs the Colts. It is also the first QVHL game in the Kelliher skating rink. Rumor has it that there are very fee tickets left and if you want to be at this historical event call the Komet ticket office to get your ticket!

The Final game of the week is a classic rivalry game as the Spitfires travel to the Head to play the Chiefs. Indian Head is paced by Justin Stewart and Steve Johnston. Also the rumored return of Derek Back to the Chiefs just adds fuel to the fire. Dean Amy is the straw that will stir the drink in Grenfell. Look for some line combos to change and for a very spirited affair in the AJM Davies Arena.

For the QVHL this is Tommy Hall saying “Feliz Navidad!”
